Traditional kitchens achieve interest through embellishment and generally speaking the modern kitchen becomes more contemporary as each layer of embellishment is removed, ultimately arriving at the most minimal of kitchens which have no embellishment whatsoever. These minimal kitchens demand just as much intricacy in their design as the most ornate of traditional designs. The qualities of the materials have to be top class to do justice to the contemporary kitchen. I absolutely love uber modern kitchens and I understand the thinking behind them and whilst I would not choose one yet for my own home, I will do one day.
For a happy medium when it comes to contemporary kitchens there should be no cornice and no light pelmet; the doors should be a simple flat panel or shaker style, perhaps introduce a couple of colours and textures with good quality materials on display.
We have chosen some kitchens which we feel reflect the broad range of contemporary design.
