West End Kitchen Specifications

This is probably one of our favourites.

Our clients live in a traditional Glasgow townhouse featuring typically high ceilings. They wanted to modernise and update the kitchen to create a warm, spacious family area with a feeling of space. Given that the ceilings were so high we were also to consider what we could do to avoid ceiling spot lights.

To address the lighting we included task lighting fitted into a discreet aluminium profile located above the bank of ovens and also above the sink run. Other furniture lighting was introduced to the handle recess just below the work surfaces as well as under the wall units. This lighting was all split in predefined circuits and would allow individual control depending on the task in hand.

We played with the heights and depths of the units to add layers of interest. The sink run was wall mounted in its entirety, this is a specially engineered system of supports by Next125. Using this system we were able to wall mount the touch to open dishwasher, the freezer and the sink unit itself. The floor beneath these units is lit by under cabinet lighting. The oven run included 3m high storage punctuated with an open shelf area for ornaments and books. By building out the wall and recessing the units they do not impose themselves on the room.

We chose white gloss units to help the light reflect back into the room, contrasted with a warm oak and Seamless Venaro white corian by Dupont. Thcorian on the island extended up from floor level and also ran up behind the sink.
